The Whys and Wherefores of Game Analysis

In the overheard conversation, games and novels are rated in different ways. This might be a influence of the different media forms. Novels are more conceptual. The paper the novel is printed on usually does not affect its value. However, games, as a multi-sensory interactive process have many external features that distract the reviewer, like the visual elements, the sound effect, and the operation interface. This happens when my classmates and I talked about the game Her Story. Besides the storyline, we also mentioned the filter, how it looks on big screens and small screens, the actress's acting, and the visual effect of the old operating system. 

However, GAME is much more than that. Having appealing images and friendly interfaces is not enough to make an excellent game. These industrial products are not the core value of a game. They can be analysized as formal aspects (how the game is represented). Besides, there are context (cultural context) and overview (what forms the game's identity) to investigate, too. 

The game is not only a product of the developer. Players also play a role in completing the narration and shaping the world.  

I am willing to write analysis essay for games, however, how can I collect information of its context? Is there an archive? 

The idea of invisible choice is inspiring. Decision made in game are not limited to clearly divided paths, but also conceived in the behaviours. This is highly realistic. You cannot even know how many choices there are. You just act like yourself and finally you see the consequence.
