GONE HOME & QUEERNESS

Why wandering is historically associated with women? What is the context? Is the context only applied to the western culture? Alice, who wandered Wonderland is female,  but what if the character is not a girl? Does this factor change the story?

Queerness is considered sexual orientation that does not fall in normative paths. Walking simulators do not constrain the players to a certain approach to investigate the space, either. In this aspect, queerness and walking simulator do have shared features. However, is this similarity too conceptual and symbolic rather than solid to associate walking and queerness? 

 

The idea that speedrunning which aims to save time by running straightly is oriented the opposite way of queer movement also cannot convince me. It binds the meaning of queerness too tight to its metaphor. The straight and not straight is a abstract imagination shared in certain in culture. As a result, it can be imagined another way. What if people in the same gender is imagined as a line, everyone faces individuals of the same sex in front of them? Then, reaching out to a same sex person will be a straighter path, and so the whole structure is overturned. 

"Locked or hidden doors keep the player out of rooms, hallways, and whole floors of the house until they find objects or trigger events that allow them to move on to new areas." Meanwhile, this experience is kind of surprising and eliminates the boredom. 

 

A statement that confuses me is 

"Gone Home is the only commonly speedrun video game that includes considerable, direct LGBTQ representation. This suggests that the speedrunning community has largely sidestepped such games (in part) because of their “diverse” representational content." The situation might be true, but the reason and result does not show a strong relevance. There are many possible reasons. It could be games with representation is limited in amount, or games speedruners are used to do not focus on the sexual orientation of the characters. 

As speedrunning practices deconstruct the narration of walking simulator, it also breaks through the linear path of the investigation and creates a approach not led by the scenes.

Why to evaluate every community by if they take LGBTQ as the core topic of discussion? A very interesting point is the queer sister ask the straight sister not to dig around, but uncovering is the core theme of the game. Is inviting a board audience to investigate a queer woman's love life a violence covered by the appearance of inclusion? Do LGBTQ people want to be represented in video games for people to stare at and examine?

Coding is essentially making description of things. The logic is like passages. 

"software is the final victory of description over thing." The painstaking specificity with which software describes reality approaches, and sometimes even touches, a deeper order. 

Is text games translatable? Is it only open for a limited audience group like people who know the language? Inform7 is made by English, is it possible to use inform 7 to make a text game in other languages?
